Michiko Yao
An ideal place to exhibit my work is at my funeral. All of my works (video, photo, installation, sculpture, drawing, painting, prints, except performance) will be mingled in a space along with my coffin. My funeral will be open to public and broadcast live online, so friends and family in overseas can see the exhibition. All the works will be on sale, and sales will be donated to organizations that help women and girls receive an education. Unsold works will be put with my body to be burned to ashes.
Born in Osaka, Japan, Michiko Yao is an interdisciplinary artist, whose work explores the psychology behind the unique social behaviors and fantasies of Japanese women, and the relationship of two imperialisms: Western and Japanese.
